Description
I wanted to do a drawing for Black History month, however It's always bothered me that we always focus on slavery for the subject of our historical discussion. I also wanted to do someone I always thought was a badass!

I agree that too much discussion of Black History fixates on the oppression African people and their offshoots suffered ever since the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and European imperialism. That focus might be understandable if "Black" is equated with African-Americans specifically, since they were brought here in chains, but obviously Africa's past extends much farther beyond that. Indeed, human beings with modern intelligence have lived in Africa far longer than anywhere else in the world.
My favorite African civilizations are probably the Egyptian, Nubian, and Malian ones, but there were several others beyond those. Compared to those older empires, the Zulu kingdom that Shaka carved out was actually a very recent development covering a small area of southernmost Africa.
